It just dawned on me that Iya might grow up not used to the great outdoors. You see where we are, we don't have a garden and neighbourhood's ratio of trees or plants for that matter against building, cars and people is just disproportionate. Aside from the park we haven't been really around trees. Saying that I am not the outdoorsy type myself, I am more of book-tv type of person. We reckon if we want her to at least have a taste of the outdoors we have to literally push our butts out and just go for it. So for the first time ever we went for a walk in the woods.
How she loved it. She walked non stop for most of the hour. She just couldn't get enough of the open space, running, crawling, and climbing. She even fell on a rabbit hole and didn't even flinch.
It was warm and sunny and if it was just up to me I wouldn't go out, let alone without an umbrella. But since we "have to", off we go. We went to
Epping Forest. It was our first time going there though we have passed through it countless times. It was full of trails and is well looked after. It is really amazing to find something this kind which makes you feel away from it all yet only being less than an hour away from the city. It was the literal walk in the woods with sunlight through trees, squirrels running, birds, swamp, snail, horse, dogs, breeze on the trees, glades, damp moss, twigs, and dried leaves.
Got stuck trying to convince the toddler, no it's not a pool.
5 seconds before the toddler ran after the horse.
We once saw this church when it was foggy, grey and damp. I kid you not, it was both creepy and beautiful.
Me: "Look it's a..."
Iya: "Not interested!"
Iya: "Can we go?"
And just on the fringe of it, is a wide open space that is a little bit inclined that gives you a view of the city. It is mild enough though that a toddler can run down without rolling. Being surrounded by trees it gives quick and easy respite from the sun should it gets too hot. And there's a pub too. It was very nice.
The mandatory catch me if you can.
Next time we heed the charm of the outdoors we know where to go.
Safe to say we would be back.
